Hi all - our staff is new in our department and we are inheriting a database full of information and records that we want to update and organize. Currently, our database has over 30 campaigns (we want to consolidate/re-name those into about 15) and over 130 funds (we want to consolidate/re-name those into about 40).
If anyone has had to go through this or has a suggestion for a system to do this, I would so appreciate any advice.
Thanks - have a great weekend!

I did have go through this process about eight years ago at the place where I used to work. It took about six month to design and create all the business rules for the changes my team and I wanted to accomplish. Then we created new campaigns, funds and appeals. Then we had to change over 450,000 gift transactions analyzing pledges and write offs. It took around one week to analyze gift transactions and create an import/update file for RE. Then all transactions were updated at once.
Mark.
Hello Mark;
We want to do the same process as we have a lot of Campaigns and Appeals. If we were do this process we are worried that we might loose some infomation. Can you share with us the process you followed so that we can ensure that information is not lost. Thanks
Be very careful in doing this. We had a situation where this happened and 2,000 records got changed in an instant. If you rename a campaign or fund, it will change the existing records immediately, all the way back to your batch records. Also, if they are posted gifts, you have to unpost them first, before correcting them. You will need the plug-in to do this. Have a plan, step by step, and of course backup, backup, backup! Good luck.
