    Development Specialist Opening at the American Red Cross in San Francisco

          Background: A local nonprofit organization, the American Red Cross Bay Area helps people recover from disasters         and     prepare for them before they strike. Last year the American Red Cross Bay Area helped 2,678 people affected by local disasters, trained 357,196 people in life saving and preparedness skills and supported 2,120 military families.

     

    For nearly 130 years Red Cross volunteers have been guided by a single principle: to help people in need, regardless of race, religion, gender, or national origin. The Red Cross has been there, and will continue to be there first, best and always - for disaster victims in need of food, clothing, and shelter.

     

    Position Title: Development Services Specialist

     

    The Development Services Specialist is responsible for the overall integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of donor information using the donor data management system (Raiser’s Edge).  The incumbent provides customer service to both internal and external (donors) customers which includes providing reports to Chapter departments and program partners.  Major Responsibilities: A.     Performs data entry duties including entering gifts and constituents while maintaining quality control and audit requirements.   B.     Prepares and prints donor acknowledgement letters using Microsoft Word mail merge files.  Maintains master mail merge document and updates as needed.  Performs quality control prior to sending letters.   C.    Provides customer service to both internal and external customers, including donors.  Uses donor management system to respond by phone, letter and/or email to donor issues.   D.    Completes special projects including but not limited to database cleanup as assigned.  E.     The above baseline duties are required as well as specialty areas that include: i)        Database Administration duties including security, tables, global changes, imports, exports and additional duties as assigned by the Director.             ii)      Responsible for direct mail support including, data exports and imports, tracking of results and communication with vendors. iii)    Responsible for maintaining backup documentation and preparing summary reports each month to the Director to reconcile contributed income with the Finance Dept. iv)    Prepares standard and on-request reports, which may include writing customized reports to support fundraising and strategic planning efforts of the Development Department and Chapter. Qualifications:  (Required for fully successful performance) A.     Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.  B.     Experience: Experience: A minimum of two years experience with relational databases required.  Must have advanced skill level and knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.  Experience with The Raiser’s Edge preferred.  In addition, experience with the following is preferred: prior work in fundraising/Development in a non-profit environment, technical report writing, general accounting/bookkeeping skills.  C.    Other: Key to a successful candidate is the ability to work in a team approach setting, exhibit excellent problem solving skills and the ability to be resourceful seeking out solutions to move the Unit forward. This position requires technical database expertise with responsibilities that include relational database queries, exports, report writing and processing.  The incumbent must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously with varying deadlines.  Must exhibit good interpersonal and customer relation skills; be flexible and willing to perform duties according to staffing needs.  An aptitude for detail work and a high level of accuracy is essential.   Please email cover letter and resume to: ARCBAResumes@usa.redcross.org
