Hey Ken,
When you're using Windows Authentication, if a Windows user is in The Raiser's Edge and is inactive for 15 minutes, the user's workstation is locked. In that case, the users just have to re-enter their Windows passwords, the same way they would if the workstation timed out due to inactivity.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced any problems with being locked out for inactivity. Twice now I've gone home for the day leaving exports running overnight, and both times I've come in the next day, unlocked RE and discovered that the exports had not finished.
I thought that exports, queries, and reports would continue to run "behind the scenes" even if it locked you out.
Hi Amanda - this issue has been resolved in Patch 4. You can download Patch 4 by going to http://www.blackbaud.com/support/downloads/downloads.aspx and selecting The Raiser's Edge 7.91 and Patch 4. After installing the patch, processes will continue running after 15 minutes of inactivity.
ThanksKevin
Hi,
We are running v7.85 in the hosted environment and, to my knowledge, we have not received any advice or notification regarding an updgrade to v v7.91. Can you advise whether there is a plan to upgrade hosted clients?
Thanks,
Sue Birch
Hey Sue,
We're in the process of scheduling updates to The Raiser’s Edge 7.91 in the OnDemand environment right now. We'll let you know when the update is scheduled in the Blackbaud OnDemand Update. If you aren't already subscribed, go to your subscriptions to subscribe.
Because all organizations are affected by our maintenance windows, we send the Blackbaud OnDemand Update a month in advance of each one. When your organization is scheduled to be updated to The Raiser's Edge 7.91, we will notify you two weeks in advance through the Blackbaud Ondemand Update.
We also completed our upgrades for RE and BBNC. I had been apprehensive about the changes and the upgrades. I was mostly worried about a smooth transition as I had been using windows authentication for most all of the users. I attended a support roundtable - it was very helpful. I was told that if I stayed with windows authentication my user's desktops would need a password for access after 15 minutes of RE inactivity. I chose to move everyone to password access. I moved everyone to a password with all caps prior to the upgrade. I then had everyone change their password to meet the new standards after the upgrade.
I'm pleasantly surprised that no one is really complaining about the 15 minute lockup. We are required to be PCI compliant and most everyone thought it brought a better level of security. The upgrade went very well. I signed up for the BBPS prior to downloading the BBNC upgrade noting my login information. Both upgrades went fairly quickly.
I've tested some of the new features and so far - so good. It's nice to be able to drag queries to folders - a little thing but important when you have tons of queries.
Hey Nora,
Thanks for sharing your story! Hopefully, your success story well help other people feel more comfortable with these updates.
When you setup Raiser's Edge not to use the Blackbaud credit card storage system why can't you then have the option to disable the 15 minute time out?
We are already running 7.91, and, believe me, the lock-out is no big deal. It takes no more than a couple of seconds to unlock.
I completely agree. There's another reason that I kind of like it... We have more users than we have RE licenses, so with the exception of the two major database users, staff are supposed to exit RE as soon as they're done with their specific task. It's nice having a neutral (and very obvious) reminder when they've left RE open after they're done using it.
Douglas Clinton: Currently, our supported processors are IATS and ICVerify when authorizing credit card transactions through The Raiser's Edge in Batch. Later this year, we will begin supporting more credit card processors in The Raiser's Edge.

Douglas,
Can you tell us what credit card processors will be added and when? Thank you.
Jeannine
Hey Jeannine,
We expect to add new processors in the fourth quarter of 2009 or the first quarter of 2010. We are still working with processors on integration and will announce the new processors when we have more information to share.
Do you have a specific processor you have questions about?
Thank you for your response, Doug.
We currently use Authorize.net for our credit card processing in the Foundation office. Our accounting department is looking into having all companies/departments within our organization use the same processor. It would be much easier knowing which will be integrated with RE in making our decision. If it is possible that Authorize.net may be one of the processors added, we may stay with them until BB comes out with their added integrations.
Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks!
I would like to know if Mercury is being considered?
Is it necessary to wait for Blackbaud to send us the Software Update Notification for The Raiser's Edge 7.91? Previously, I was told by Blackbaud that with all the changes in The Raiser's Edge 7.91, they anticipated a lot more questions with this release. To make sure that these questions were answered promptly, they were going to stagger the notifications so that everyone doesn't receive them at once. Has other sites waited to receive the Notification before they went to RE 7.91?
Thanks!!!
