GHello! I'm new to BB, and the forums...I did a search in Data Entry and didn't find anything so thought i'd put a post out. Are any of you having to deal with more than 2 suffixes? If so how are you inputting it into the system? I need to be able to run mailing lists based on some of these certificates/suffixes. For example, D.D.S., M.S., P.A.
Blackbaud's suggestion is below, but I wanted to see how the community is doing things and get some insight into problems etc with how you are doing something like this.
One thing you can do is create a constituent Attribute for this. You could call it "additional suffixes" or something similar. However, this would not be available as a merge field in Mail, only in Export. Another option would be to add the suffixes as a large combo suffix on the suffixes table. Since we are limited to only two suffix fields on the Bio 1 tab, these would be our choices - save the extra one somewhere else, or create a new suffix that combines two or more of them together.
Thanks for any and all input!
When I had this issue I created a new suffix which combined two of the more common suffixes and then you can add the third.
We also combined the two suffixes into one listing so our table has 1) "D.D.S." 2) "M.S." and 3) "D.D.S., M.S."
One data entry policy we implemented is to use the 1st suffix field for "given" suffixes (e.g. Jr., Sr., III, etc.). We use the second suffix field for "earned" suffixes (e.g. DDS, MS, PhD, etc.). This allows us to manage our addressee and salutation list more consistently.
