    “No Valid Addresses”

    Hi,

We currently have 2,250 records with “No Valid Addresses”, which is an 8.1% rate when applied against our total records of

27,948.  We are an Art Museum and I was wondering if there is an industry standard to match up against.

    Thank you for your assitance.

I don't know if there is...I'm in Helathcare and we have 2064 NVA's out of 33596 records which is somewhere in the ballpark of 6%

I doubt very highly that there could ever be a true industry standard on the entire database.  It would highly depend on the age of your organization.  An older more established organization is going to have a larger lost rate simply because over time there will be natural losses.  A newer organiztion which has been doing regular NCOA and deceased constituent checks should have a fairly low lost rate.

If you look at only those donors who have given in the past 5 years you may be able to come up with some kind of lost percentage to compare to other organizations who do the regular data appends that you presumably do (NCOA, Deceased, etc.) but I have never seen any kind of industry standard of this nature.

The Fund Services Listserv sometimes has these types of statistics so you may want to check out www.fundsvcs.org.

It also depends on the type of organization.  We are at 11.5% NVAs.  However, many of these are tourists that buy single tickets to concerts through Patron Edge.  PE is integrated with RE and although we get the patron's name we do not always get their address so they are entered with no address.

Dave, you probably have the same issue with summer tourists who are staying at hotels in the area.  I would research the reason the record is coded as No Valid Address.
