I was curious how common it is among organizations using the Membership module to also assign a membership consitituent code?  If not, what consitutent code do you assign when the only affiliation the donor has to your organization is his / her membership donation?

I agree, filtering on constituent codes for membership is much easier than using the membership node in query/export. However, you will have to then make sure your codes are changed if their membership expires/lapses otherwise it won't be accurate.
