copy and paste into a Raiser's Edge query

I'm sure I am not the only person who has wanted to copy and paste a list of names, importID numbers, etc into a query. Raiser's edge does not accept "paste" operations of more than one line. But there's a workaround. This macro looks for a query criteria window whenever you press control+v. If one is not found, the behavior of control+v is not changed; if one is found, then when you press control+v, it "pastes" in a way that the Raiser's Edge Query criteria window will understand. (it splits the lines up and pastes one line at a time, with lines separated by a simulated press of the "tab" key.) To the best of my knowlege, up to 500 items may be in a list using the "one of" operator in a Raiser's Edge query. This code is written by me, and it is free and comes with no warranties of any kind. To use it, you will either need to either download AutoHotkey and use the code as an AutoHotkey script or download the program file (EXE) version. The code and the EXE file are available at: http://www.autohotkey.net/~julianb/

Julian,  this sounds fantastic.  Is there anyone else out there that has used this?  I'd love to hear from another org or two that has used this macro.

Thanks much for letting us know about this and publishing it!

Very cool! Blackbaud can't support it, but I did include a link to it in Knowledgebase solution BB41047

Thanks so much for sharing, Julian!

Re: copy and paste into a Raiser's Edge query

     Hi,

I just wanted to throw my two cents in here - I have the workaround utility "Paste Into Query" and I've had lots of problems with it.  I've found that when I highlight cells in excel and paste them I get a handful of those cells repeated many times.  For example, I may have 15 cells with 15 different constituent ID numbers.  When I paste them into the query, I end up with only three of those ID numbers, each repeated five times, so rather than seeing 15 constituents in my results, I only get three.

I'm not sure if anyone else has had similar issues or knows of a workaround for the workaround.  If so I'd love to hear it!

I just created a query from excel this morning.

    I love it.

    Thank you SO much!

You have just made at least four people jump around the office with joy!  We have waited years to do this, thanks again.

I was just searching the knowledgebase to see if there was a way to copy and paste a list of IDs from Excel into Query, and I came across this. Just what I needed -- thank you for sharing!

Re: copy and paste into a Raiser's Edge query

I'm not sure if this is the same thing, since the original post is older, but in query you can select "one of", then scroll down all the way the last line and click paste (holding up to 500 values). Either way, the ability to do this is super handy and it's made my job easier on numerous occasions!

I am also having a duplicate issue with it. Is there a work around?

Re: copy and paste into a Raiser's Edge query

I just downloaded it and gave it a try, I also have the same problem. So I try: 1111 2222 3333 4444 5555 6666 7777 8888 9999 and copy it. Then on Raiser's Edge, I select "one of" operator and do ctrl-V to paste (after having the text cursor on the first line), but got these pasted: 3333 7777 7777 9999 9999 Please assist
