    SQL 2005 or SQL Express

Did I read somewhere that there is a limited number of records that can be housed on SQL Express as opposed to SQL 5000?

    Hi Chris,

SQL 2005 Express Edition is limited to a database size of 4Gb. I don't believe there's any limit to the number of records -- in the sense that you're limited to a certain number of rows in a table -- but the more information you have on a constituent, the larger their records will be, and that'll get you closer and closer to the 4Gb cutoff. If you're embedding documents on action records, your database size will also grow MUCH faster.

Constituents add up fast. I've got about 250,000 people and 950,000 gifts, and my database is around 8Gb, and that's without embedding documents.

You can get all kinds of other details about the difference between Express/Standard/Enterprise at this link:
