United Nations Foundation (UNF)/Better World Fund (BWF)Director of Database ManagementVacancy AnnouncementOVERVIEWThe Director of Database Management is responsible for facilitating the design, maintenance, and strategic use of the United Nations Foundation’s centralized constituent database, which includes fundraising, events and advocacy records, and coordinating its use with other database resources throughout the Foundation. The position works closely with public affairs, fundraising and finance to create a comprehensive data system which supports the various units and complies with policies and procedures. Provides advice, guidance, and training to users in other departments concerning the capabilities and functions of Raiser’s Edge (RE), Convio and Financial Edge. Ensures compliance with institutional policies, goals and procedures to advance a comprehensive program.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPEThe Director of Database Management reports to the Executive Director of Development and is an integral part of a strong, close-knit team. The position is responsible for managing Development Associates and works closely with other members of the United Nations Foundation staff responsible for data management and entry including but not limited to Finance and Public Affairs. RESPONSIBILITIES/DELIVERABLES• Provide strategic leadership and direction for meeting the infrastructure and data management needs of the Foundation. • Monitor, evaluate and oversee the workflow and performance of all data support services. Create and maintain benchmarks for setting staff goals and routinely (minimum quarterly) report productivity to Executive Director of Development. Monitor all processing and data entry to and from Raiser’s Edge.• Serve as the primary liaison between the Finance and Public Affairs offices and the Development office and other Foundation users to resolve problems and ensure collaboration. A major objective (institutional priority) will be the integration of existing ancillary databases with RE, wherever possible. • Evaluate institutional and user needs and recommend appropriate procedures and solutions utilizing existing Foundation technology where possible, and other database management system products if necessary. • Oversee and direct the maintenance and operation of Blackbaud’s Raiser's Edge database including data integrity, user interface, database design and security. Identify standalone department databases and coordinate their integration into RE and train staff on the use of RE and the Convio/RE Connector. Ensure the integrity of information systems and procedures. • Ensure that proper documentation, procedures and policies are maintained for data integrity. Reviews and updates departmental procedures and policies annually. Routinely suggest policy and procedure topics for documentation, and draft, modify, post and implement policies and procedures as approved. Develop standards, procedures, and conventions for data and database use and monitor staff and departmental use and applications. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures to support ethical and successful fundraising practices. • Develop custom reports, screens, and forms, and supervise these duties when delegated to appropriate staff. Determine file organization, indexing methods, and reporting procedures for specific user applications. Routinely report on the progress of departmental database integrations and updates target areas as needed. • Serve as the Foundation’s primary liaison with the IT department for all database technical assistance including consultants and vendors. • Serve as the leader of an internal user’s group for key Raiser’s Edge users and ensure the tables and fields are being used as designed by Blackbaud and Convio. • In coordination with IT, test Raiser’s Edge for data security and its ability to restore data from backup media. Work with IT department to create back-up and recovery policies and procedures and to ensure software updates for all affected computers. • Keep abreast of hardware and software developments in order to ensure that the Foundation's systems function at the optimal level. Make recommendations to UNF leadership concerning necessary upgrades and replacements, conducting appropriate research and preparing necessary budgets. • Monitor the financial data with Finance and ensure that all donor financial transactions and donations are credited to proper general ledger fund accounts. • Develop and monitor data services annual budget. Determine fiscal requirements, prepare budget recommendations, and monitor and reconcile expenditures of the budgeted funds.SELECTION CRITERIA • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience in data services.• Ten plus years progressively responsible experience using and managing a relational database management system, including five years of experience with RE, working knowledge of Convio and Financial Edge and other database management systems. Also requires demonstrated proficiency in use of Crystal Reports. Advanced computer skills with MS Office. • Seven years experience supervising technical staff and demonstrated ability to select, motivate and inspire subordinates while holding them accountable for their performance. Ability to work effectively as a team leader, as well as independently; ability to train, inspire, and motivate subordinates. • Advanced query, appeals, export, and prospect module experience, preferably with wealth screening, terrorists watch lists, and direct mail.• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to explain highly technical concepts and processes clearly to non-technical clients. • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and/or projects simultaneously while addressing the needs of the office, ability to maintain composure under pressure. • Customer service focus with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse constituency, and the ability to inspire confidence and respect among clients. • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practice. • Knowledge of fundraising modules such as RE, Convio and Artez.• Ability to work effectively as a team leader as well as independently; ability to train, inspire, and motivate subordinates. Actual salary will depend on qualifications and anticipated contribution to the Foundation. UNF pays 100% of medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance premiums for its employees and 75% of medical and vision for employees' dependents. In addition, UNF provides 20 days of paid vacation per year, 12 paid holidays, three personal days per year, an immediately vested 150% matching 403(b) contribution up to a limit of six-percent of employee pay, Metro Pass benefits, and flexible spending accounts for health and dependent care.
