    Address Delete Utility

Has anyone had to removed multiple address from donor records? here is the problem. we have mulitple addresses on a donor record. For example the donor has a  type Home. 123 Good St.  a type Old: 123 Good St. a type Previous: 123 Good St.  Each of these adresses are the same.  I want to remove from the donor record address and address type Old and Previous as the addresses are same as the Home address type. Can someone provide me with some ideas that can work to remove these mulitiple addresses and address types. Has anyone used the Address Delete Utility or is their a utility that will work to clean up this problem.

    thanks, Mary

I have this situation in my system from people not importing from NCOA properly before I got here.  Unless you want to delete ALL Old and Previous addresses (which I am sure you do not want to do) you may need to do this slowly one at a time the way I have been doing them.  There is no way inside RE to do a comparison and only delete the Old if it is the same as Preferred.

The only thing I have considered is that you may be able to export your addresses and manually look through them in an excel format and add some type of address attribute to the ones you want to delete and then import them back in.  Then see if you can globally delete those with that attribute.  (have not looked into whether or not you can do this.  I did not look into it because it was not worth my time for the large number of addresses in my system and the "bigger fish" I need to fry in my database cleanup.

I just made sure that all the Old and Previous address types had Send Mail unchecked and then RE will never use it.  It is ugly on the address tab but you can hide addresses that do not receive mail to fix that.

We also have the same issue, from incorrectly imported data.  Like Melissa, I clean the records one at a time as I come across them.  Many of our Alumni change apartments within the sdame building and though it seems like the same address when quickly looking at it, the apartment number is different, so it does need to be kept.  Worse than just having duplicate adresses, one of the previous data entry people never changed an address type, so a record can have many "Home" addresses, with no dates, mail to box still checked etc.  I do change these to previous (suspecting that the prefered address is the newest), but again on a single record at a time.  I assume that by the time I leave, I will have the address records cleaned up, but I know it will take time.
