Hello all,
I'm trying to run a query showing all gifts for events in FYE '08 while also listing the event name so I can get totals and descriptions. However the event name isn't connected with the gift in any way and the field simply comes up blank. Should I be running this through an event query instead? Thoughts?
Thanks!

An event query will will give you a list of events that meet a certain criteria - it not give you a list of gifts if that is what you need.
If these gifts were linked to an event then in a gift query you are able to show the event the gift was linked to.
If the gift was not linked to an event... well, then it is not linked to an event. RE can not assume data - it spits out facts.
Did you have a particular appeal, fund or campaign for these event gifts that you can use instead?
Yes, they are all connected by the appeal 'Event' and almost everything with this appeal has an event ID. However the event ID isn't the event name which is what I'm after. There are a couple thousands gifts when I pull a query based on the appeal of 'Event'. I guess I'm looking for an easier way to get these event totals and names. I'm not as familar with Reports but would there be something in there that will list all event names and totals for a given date range?
Thanks!!
Darla
If the gift is truly linked to an event registration and you can show the event ID you should also be able to show the name. Event Name is a required field on an event record so if it is linked to the event then it should show.
In gift query go down to Event - open it and add to your output list Event Name. If Event Name is blank then the gift is not linked to an event. When one of these gifts comes up in your query with a blank event name - double click on it to open it and look at the bottom right. If there is an icon there with a little red flag then it is linked to an event. Double click on the icon to see what event it is linked to. If there is no icon it was not linked to an event in the event module.
Oh interesting! I don't believe that we have ever really registered individual donors with an event so none of our gifts have been truely 'linked'. I'll have to look into this a bit more. So now that I know there is no link between the gift and event, would there still be a way to pull this information or is this going to have to be done by hand?
Thanks for shedding some light on this!!
