Hi there,
We have recently implemented Financial Edge. I am looking at the best way to create our Fund IDs in Raiser's Edge to show the link to Financial Edge. How are others doing this? Are your Fund IDs in RE the same as the Project IDs in FE? Any advise on your fund structure in RE would be most appreciated.
I am not sure of the best way to ensure that the coding description matches from Raisers Edge Funds to Finanical Edges projects.
Thanks,
Liesl
We use RE and FE. Generally our Fund ID and Project ID are the same or very similar. It seems to help our exec and business mgr when they are doing financial reports to easily see what is what. Most important is just linking up with the right GL accounts so $ is where it should be. The ID and/or description don't have to match as long as the people who need to know what the fund/project is know.
PS if you do need to change a Fund ID/Description after it's created you can do it without a problem (just know if you ran reports with Fund title XXX and you change it to Fund XYY that it's the same fund).
I do not use FE so you can take my advice for what it is worth. My opinion is that the Fund ID should be something easily data entered by staff from memory as much as possible. When a gift comes in for the Friends of the Family program it is much easier to remember and data enter "FOF" then to remember and data enter "000-458-FF-4100".
My understanding is that so long as your GL codes on your fund match up to the proper GL codes in FE that it does not matter what the ID is in RE. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
I have decided to create the Fund IDs in RE and Project IDs in FE the same as we will have a large number of funds. The Format for the funds will also be easy for gift entry as it is alpha- numerical. We're a Relief & Development Organization so our FE codes begin with the country code in letters and the number is unique to the project within that country. We also have a few other codes that are not country specific.
Thanks for your help. Your input helped me be confident in my decision. :)
You're right Melissa that as long as the GL codes match up to the proper GL codes in FE it doesn't matter what the ID is in RE.
