Blackbaud recommends the Falcon 310 scanner for compatibility with the FE7 Fixed Assets Module, however the product is discontinued. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks!

HI Tamara,
I'm in the same situation - looking for a bar code scanner to work with Fixed Assets. From what I can tell from my research, the main compatibility issue is making sure the scanner is capable of reading a "12 point of 3 of 9 bar code font."
If you find anything more specific, I'd love to know.

HI Sandi:
Our IT department is working on this issue. No luck thus far.
Thanks for sharing, and I will keep you posted!

It's been about five years since I've worked with barcode scanners, for retail use. But I remember that the scanners were programmable.
The manual was full of barcodes to use in programming. You just scanned one code and it went into program mode. Then you scanned other codes to set various options. That's how you could tell it that it was supposed to read "2 of 5", "3 of 9" or UPC format barcodes, for example.
I don't think we were using high-end scanners, so I imagine that programmability is fairly standard.
Even a cheap $70 scanner from TigerDirect supports over a dozen barcode formats, including "3 of 9."
