Hello,
Does anyone know the best way to enter a matched gift that includes gift aid? For example, if we receive a donation of £1 - the gift aid claim will take it up to £1.25p and then now that the (UK) government has announced it will match donations (33% I believe, which can vary depending on the amount or institution), which would take it up to approximately £1.66p. Is there a way to record this that anyone knows of? So that we can run a report that will show the total gift amounts, how much of which are gift aid and how much of which are government matched?
Am I right in thinking we need to set up an organisational record which would act as the government so that we can do the matching gifts function?
Hopefully this makes sense.
Any help would be much appriciated.
I wasn't aware that the government were going to be matching donations. I would assume that Blackbaud would be aware of this and would publish a recommended solution for how to go about doing this (given its enormity). Have they given you any ideas?
David
I dont have any idea about that 33% contribution from Govt. Can you kindly share us wher you learnt about this scheme?
Anyways for your question, if it is only for the reporting purpose i would recommed to do that calculation in excel outside RE rather than matching everygift with the dummy govt record you are planning to create.
The UK government announced plans last year to match donations made to Higher Education Institutions.

Hello Peter,
Many thanks for that link. I understand that the scheme is specifically meant for Educational Institutions and not for Charities like ours. Adrain is right about creating an Org record with the factor of 0.33 to match the gifts manually. The second option would be to create a gift attribute so that you can track the gift that are eligible on this scheme and then in future you can query them to do the reporting. Hope it makes sense.
Hi Adrian,
Is this for every gift that comes in or just certain qualifying gifts?
My first thought would be to track this using the matching gifts functionality - but if that can't be utilized I would use Campaign & Appeal Codes to manage and on a specific date (Monthly, Quarterly, Annually - whenever you need to turn in your requests for the monies) I would run a report on Campaign & Appeal and use that figure to calvulatewhat to put in a Matching Gift PLedge on the UK Gvt account & The GIft Aid Accounts.
Hope this is clear.
Many thanks for the suggestions - as Peter mentions above, information on the government matching donations can be found on the link he has kindly provided.
I'm still unsure as to the best way to record the matched gifts, in a way so that they show up when running reports - eg total amount of gifts - total amount of gift aid, total amount of matched gifts.
As mentioned above, setting up Hefce as an organisational record and putting in a factor of 0.33 will do the matching calculations but I'm not sure how this would show up on reports when combined with gift aid or if it would show up at all?
Any more suggestions would greatly appreciated.
