We are required by the USPS to store a participant code on every record in our database that would be pulled on a mailing list. This is because we will be participating in the electronic address change service. The code will consist of seven alpha characters and will be the same for every record. The code will be provided by the postal service, and must appear on every mail piece. I'm curious to hear where others store this code on a constituent record. I thought the address block would be a good place, but I'm concerned it will get deleted when I update addresses through AddressFinder. Thanks.
You could pick something that's easy to print onto a label. You could put it under its own type of addressee, or alias. Attributes would work OK too, but you'd probably have to add the participant code independently to the mailings (e.g. entering it in a raiser's edge label printing as a "user defined message")
(go to Raiser's Edge / Mail / Labels / (your label type) / Fields to Include / Miscellaneous Fields / User Defined Message )
