Currently we are not using packages.  We have a TON of appeals.  When mailing out a holiday appeal and receiving donations we use the campagin (Holiday Appeal) and appeal (which mailing it is, ex. Holiday Apl 1 or Holiday Apl 2).  We also use appeals for events, for instance our dinner dance would Have a campaign and each different revenue item has its own appeal (ad book, tickets, raffle, etc.). 

I'm frustrated by all the appeals because when running reports, especially several years back, I have to remember which appeals I need to include and go through the long list of all my appeals (sometimes we want to know how much donors spent on events and other times we don't want those $ included). My question is would using packages for event revenue (ad book, tickets raffle), eliminate my appeal frustration.  Or will I find that when I want to run a report on an event that I won't get a breakdown on the packages that I'm use to getting with my appeals?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
