Does anyone know where our organization can go, online, to look up privacy laws concerning donors and updating change of address through 3rd party venders (such as RE)? We are investigating using AddressFinder and AddressAccelerater, and all processes have come to a hult when we discovered the release form we have to sign for USPS's database access. We want to be sure we are not in voilation of any privacy law. Does anyone have any clairification on this issue? -The USPS website and PDF's really did not give a clear answer.
Hi Victoria,
I don't have a solid answer, but I wanted to get into this thread to receive any future posts. I have attended a local Postal Customer Council meeting regarding the Move Update, and it was mentioned that banks and other financial institutions must confirm any address changes with the customer because of legal issues surrounding individual's financial matters. It wasn't clear that other organizations had to do this, but I imagine if organizations are processing recurring payments, they might fall into the same category. I would either contact my local Postal Customer Council or my blackbaud account manager. If this an obstacle for you to sign up for additional Blackbaud products, AddressAccelerator or AddressFinder, I'm sure your account manager would be very helpful to relieve your concerns in order to seal the deal.
