How do you handle multiple memorial names from one gift?

We have an annual event where we encourage people to donate in honor or memory of others. We often get one gift, like $100 and 4 names attached. In the past we have handled it by dividing up the dollar amount and entering multiple gifts - so, we would input 4 gifts in the donor's record of $25 each with the tribute information linked. This causes confusion at times for employees looking at the record when speaking to donors. It also creates multiple thank you letters which we then have to manually adjust. We tried putting the gift in once and linking all the tributes to it but then it gives full credit to each memorial record. So, four memorials would get credit for $100 instead of $25. I'm not entirely sure of the impact that would have, except that I know we use the memorial information to qualify tributes for the donor wall.

How does everyone else handle this?

     Thanks,

    Carrie

    Carrie,

We too have had to deal with this issue as we have many memorial programs based on the amount of tribute gifts given to a constituent.  Unfortunately, entering it in as 4 gifts is the only way to properly track tribute amounts for such memorial programs.  There is a Knowledgebase solution:  BB7010 where you can add your name for the suggested program change.

I believe Blackbaud needs to step up to the plate on this issue as the workaround (entering 4 separate gifts) messes with reports such as new donors and giving history.

    Wish I had better news...

    Jeannine
