As a crimefighter, he's been the diminutive Ant-Man and the towering Giant-Man. Most of the time, Dr. Pym is average size, but he shrinks and grows as the situation requires. When you're asking your constituents for gifts, it's a good idea to start with a prior gift amount and work your way up or down from there.

It's easy to calculate an ask amount based on a pervious gift using export. For example, your organization wants to ask your donors to give 15 percent more than their last gift. To do this, create a new constituent export and include the appropriate constituents on the General tab. On the Output tab, select the Gift Amount field from the Last Gift section of Available Fields. Highlight Amount, click Format, and the Amount Format screen appears.

Mark the Increase option, select percent, enter your percentage, then mark the checkbox to round to whole numbers and click OK. You can also choose to decrease the amount, and to increase or decrease the amount by a specific dollar value (e.g. $10, $25, $50) rather than by a percentage.

From there, it's just a matter of selecting the rest of your fields and exporting the data. This information is also in Knowledgebase solution BB6154.

Export Explorations: Filtering Gifts in a Constituent Export

A kaleidoscope rearranges a solid beam of light into different patterns. In The Raiser's Edge, you can use filters to shape raw data into something meaningful.

When you include gift information in a constituent export, the Gift Criteria screen is where you specify which gifts to include in the results. The only required field in this screen is the number of gifts. The maximum number of gifts you can export for a constituent is 99.

On the General tab, you can filter gifts by date and amount. You can also choose to order gifts by date. If you leave the start and end amounts blank and you don't sort the gifts by date, Export considers all gifts and exports them in date ascending order. When you mark the option to Order Gifts by Date, gifts are listed in order from the beginning of your date range (ascending) or backwards from the end of your date range (descending).

On the Filter tab, you can filter gifts by Campaign, Fund, Appeal, and Query. The query filter lets you select a gift query to use as a filter. With a gift query, you can filter on pay method, gift constituency code, an attribute, or any other field on a gift record. While the other filters act as a sledgehammer, the query filter can be used as a scalpel.

The Gift Types tab operates the same way that it does in reports; you can choose to include or exclude gift types as well as mark the options to Exclude zero amount gifts, Use sale date for sold stock/property, Use sale amount for sold stock/property, Subtract broker fee from sold stock/property, Use gift balance instead of gift amount, and Calculate gift balance based on date range, campaign, fund, and appeal.

Because you can export the same field multiple times with different criteria, you can export multiple groups of gifts using different sets of criteria in the same export. For more information about using export filters, check out Knowledgebase solution BB106059.

News You Can Use: Important Information for Organizations Who Process Credit Cards by Exporting or Printing Credit Card Numbers from The Raiser's Edge

This applies to organizations that store credit card data in The Raiser’s Edge, and authorize credit card transactions by exporting or printing credit card numbers. If your organization uses IATS or ICVerify to authorize credit cards in the Batch module, or you don't use The Raiser's Edge to store credit cards, these changes do not affect you.

As a result of new credit card regulations covered under PCI, The Raiser’s Edge 7.91, scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2009, will no longer store full credit card numbers. To achieve compliance Blackbaud has removed storage of full credit card numbers from all products, including The Raiser's Edge 7.91.

In The Raiser’s Edge 7.91 full credit card numbers are replaced with reference tokens. These tokens map to the full number stored in the Blackbaud Payment Service (BBPS). Only the last four digits of credit cards will display on constituent and gift records and in the Batch module. Credit card numbers will appear as 12 asterisks followed by the last four digits of the card (i.e. ************7864).

After installing this update, you will no longer be able to view, print or export full credit card numbers, or authorize credit cards by printing or exporting credit card data.

To authorize credit card transactions in The Raiser's Edge, you must create an account with a supported credit card processor. Current supported processors for The Raiser’s Edge are IATS and ICVerify.
• IATS is an online solution that has a direct interface with The Raiser’s Edge. To create an account with IATS or to learn more, please see Knowledgebase solution BB142121.
• ICVerify is a third-party software application that is installed on any workstation you use to authorize credit card transactions. For information on purchasing ICVerify, see Knowledgebase solution BB126. If you use ICVerify you must be on version 4.03 SP2 or higher.

If your organization selects to remain on your current version and continue processing credit cards by exporting or printing credit card numbers, we strongly recommend that you contact a Qualified Security Assessor (QSA). A QSA can advise your organization on how to secure your credit card data and authorize credit card transactions in accordance with PCI.

To learn more about PCI or to take the PCI self-assessment questionnaire, please visit the PCI Security Standards Council's website.

On the Output tab of your Export select the Summary Information, Gifts, Total Gift Amount field, set the appropriate criteria, and click OK.

In the right frame, highlight the name of the export; if this is a new Export highlight 'New Constituent Export'.

In the left frame, double click the Summary Information, Gifts, Total Gift Amount field and set the appropriate criteria and click OK.

Notice the second Total Gift Amount field appears in the right frame proceeded by 2. This indicates that you have selected the same field multiple times with unique parameters.

Repeat the above steps the number of times the field is needed. For example, to export Total Gift amount three times, follow the above steps three times.

To learn more about this, read Knowledgebase solution BB3503.
