Itemized Receipts in Patron Edge

Are you tired of designing receipts that look too basic or unprofessional. Patron Edge ships with an itemized, 8.5" x 11" receipt that includes tickets, series/memberships, donations and merchandise, along with any kind of split payment combination you can throw at it. It also has a 40-column itemized receiptdesigned for receipt printers.

If you want to try it out, do this:

  1. Create a receipt in Doc Design with Crystal as the doc type
  2. In the Stored Procedure Name field, enter RptDetailedReciept
  3. For Crystal RPT File Name enter ReceiptDocument.rpt for the 8.5 x 11 design, or BB_Itemized_Receipt.rpt for the 40-column design
  4. Save the doc and set up your Tix Print Server, Print Options, and Sales Point Printing accordingly

The receipts live in the Patron Edge\Documents folder, so if you want to play with the copy on the receipt or change things around you can feel free to work with it in Crystal Reports. If you do so, I recommend using a copy rather than the original so updates don't overwrite your hard work!

This receipt is still catching on, so we haven't gotten many enhancement requests for it yet. Do you have any ideas on improving the itemized receipt you'd like to see in the future? Leave a note in the comments.

Hey Nicholai,

the blog is very cool. Haven't had much chance to look in to too much detail. But have today. I have a question on this one though, I have a client who uses this receipt but they do a lot of exchanges and the issue they have is that it doesn't have a transaction number? it does have a daily receipt number but they are using the touch screen and searching for this is almost impossible unless your an expert user. any ideas?

The transaction number does get pulled into the initial creation of the data source but is not one of the fields it returns. You could add it to the SELECT statements in the RptDetailedReciept stored procedure, or file a suggestion on it to see if we can get the field added to the report by default in a future release.

We have been using the BB_Itemized_ Receipt and the largest complaint is that the date, as well as the transaction number do not appear on the receipt.

Unforunately, I don't work in Crystal which means i can't add those fields.

Bottom line is: I do think that the date is one of the most important features on a receipt and I agree with Jose that the transaction number should be included as well, as it is problematic for the POS users to search for it easily.

All that said, it is a professional looking receipt and is great for membership and group sales because their name gets printed on the receipt as well as their ticketing information.

The main change that I would like to see is to have the address line separated into two lines, one for the street address, and another line for the city, state and zipcode.

As the report is now written, it can't be folded and placed in a window envelope to mail.

And, if the address lines get changed, then if the client phone number could be moved down or over a bit, then the phone number wouldn't show up in my window envelope. :)

@Julie: We've actually made that change for the updcoming version, since having both address lines together doesn't make sense like you say.

@Patricia: The date and time are on the receipt, but there does look like an issue causing them not to print. Here's the easiest way to get them to show up until the issue is resolved:

1. Open the report in Crystal

2. Right-click the Details b section and select Format Section

3. You'll notice the button beside the Suppress section is red. Click it and delete the text you see here

4. Click Save and Close, save the document and it will now print date and time. This will be permanently fixed in the future.

I am working with the itemized 8.5 x 11 receipt and we need to have the transaction number to print on the receipt but I can not find the feild. Any suggestion?

If the transaction number is not available where is the order# located?

@Amy: Please see the second comment from this post. It discusses having the transaction number on the receipt. Order number is not one of the fields that is used in the data source, so transaction number would be the easier one to add to the stored procedure.
