If you are reading this blog post right after your Thanksgiving here in the USA or after a special family gathering in your country, I hope it was as neat as the one I experienced. At the risk of being a bit too sentimental in a commercial web site blog, I decided to share a bit of why I was a little more thankful than usual in 2008.

We had the usual large amount of food during our gathering at the Love household. Somehow over the last few years the entire extended family clan has fully migrated to our home for this event. It seems like only yesterday we were gathering our three small children and heading to their grandmother’s home for the turkey and dressing. I can honestly say the shift is a good thing, since the smells and daylong conversations really make our home just that -- home.

So why is this year a bit different? It begins with the fact that those three children are now grown and away from our home. In fact, one of them is well beyond driving distance to Indiana with his location in Oakland, CA. So anytime we have all or even most of them back for a long holiday it seems like the world is somewhat back to normal.

However, this year is really different due to the fact that my wife and I are now grandparents. Our granddaughter brings a whole new perspective to just about everything. The picture below highlights the two of us engaging in one of our favorite activities, reading one of her multitude of books. (The one pictured is probably our favorite. We literally wore out 2-3 copies of that particular book with our three children!)

Such special days seem to be even more important as so much of the world is having uncertain economic times. Hopefully, your Thanksgiving or equivalent family gathering served as a respite and renewing event for you. I honestly cannot wait for the next one...
