Most nonprofit organizations run a successful major giving program, but direct marketing can be challenging. And, with more than 20,000 lists available to a nonprofit organization, identify the best lists for a direct marketing program can be just as daunting.
In two new white papers, Suzanne Newell of Target Analytics explores how to conduct a feasibility study, launch a successful direct marketing program, and avoid competing with the major gifts program, as well as identifying and acquiring the best lists. With more than 10 years of direct marketing experience, Newell was a list manager, list broker, and agency account executive for companies such as Brickmill Studios, The Millard Group, and Harte-Hanks Direct Marketing. Now, with Target Analytics, Newell assists nonprofit customers with direct marketing campaigns for donor acquisition and renewal efforts.

Charleston, S.C. (April 25, 2008) - In recognition of National Volunteer Week, Blackbaud, Inc. (NASDAQ: BLKB), is hosting volunteer fairs and events at its Charleston and Indianapolis offices. Read the full press release here.
I am very excited about these events, primarily because a nonprofit that I am on the board of, Fields to Families, is going to be recruiting volunteers at our Charleston HQ. We were also awarded the Reward Your Passion grant this month.
As a young volunteer-driven organization, Fields to Families works to help increase nutrition to the area hungry by coordinating distribution of fresh produce obtained from local gardens and farms. There is no paid staff, we don't do a whole lot of fundraising (yet), but what we DO do is rely heavily on the kindness of volunteers. Without them, our little nonprofit would cease to exist and the more than 43,000 pounds of fresh produce that was donated and distributed to the area hungry last year would have either rotted or been destroyed.
National Volunteer Week is a way to recognize your organization's volunteers (often your most precious resources) and let the world know about your ongoing volunteer needs. For additional information about National Volunteer Week, a service of Points of Light & Hands On Network, visit http://www.pointsoflight.org/programs/seasons/nvw/.

With terms like “present value methodology,” “four-tier system of taxation,” and “current IRS-mandated discount rate,” it’s no wonder that many nonprofits hesitate to enter into discussions about planned gifts. In two new white papers, Target Analytics consultant Katherine Swank explores the ideas that s
uccessful planned giving programs build relationships with constituents that rarely center on charitable tax benefits, and strong planned giving programs build over time, but if your organization is ready, there’s no time like the present to begin.
With more than 20 years of legal and nonprofit management experience, Katherine Swank has raised approximately $215 million for national healthcare and public broadcasting organizations, as well as an independent law school. Prior to joining Target Analytics in May 2007, Swank was the national director of gift planning at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, where she provided fundraising consulting services to the Society’s chapter leadership and development staff for six years.
